What's your hobby?

Since yesterday I started my National Cupcake Day event I knew what today's post would be about. Hobbies! I have found that having hobbies helps the infertility process a little more. It's something to distract yourself, when your having a bad day you can just focus your energy some place else.
My husband has his rink. This is what he looks forward to ALL year. He could be out there for 12 hours at a time. We have invested in boards, plastic, a burn barrel, and we will even be making a zamboni soon. Whether he's skating on it, shoveling it, flooding it, or even staring at it. That's his happy place, that's his focus for the winter.
Since I don't work as much I need a little more to keep my mind distracted. On a daily basis I have found working out to be good. Either a good intense workout, going for a run, walking the dogs, or even just trying to get my step goal for the day in. I have made it a goal for myself to become more active. You do have to focus a lot of energy on this, energy and WILL POWER!!! Haha. You have to force yourself sometimes, but it is definitely worth it in the long run.

I also decorate cakes. I took the first cake decorating course years ago, and sort of went from there. My mom decorated cakes when I was younger so I think a skill was passed down from her, even though our talents differ (she's better with icing, and i'm better with fondant). I usually am super stressed the whole time i'm making one, but I still love doing it. And that brings me to my next hobby. Volunteering. I am on the Fundraising Committee for the Sarnia & District Humane Society. We meet once a month(ish) to help come up with funds for the shelter. I also get to work some of the events! When National Cupcake Day started 4 years ago I was all over that....cupcakes and animals?!?! I have raised over $2000 since I started and have a hefty goal of $1500 this year.
Too often you can get into a rut. Go to work, go home, watch tv. If you have something to look forward to it helps the day (and your mind) run smoothly!
